Couch Fabric and a Project

So glad you guys like the couch makeover!

A few people had questions about the fabric I choose.  I was pretty clueless about what type of weight etc. to get so when I walked in to UFab I didn't even try to look around because it can be super overwhelming.  I just told the girl I was having a slipcover made and wanted it to be white twill.  She walked me over and showed me two different color options.  Done!  It was simple as that.

Wanted to share my latest project.  Remember the Ikea Rast nightstand I picked up at Goodwill for $13 a while back.  Well its been sitting in my sons room as is....until yesterday!

(Here's how it looked when I picked it up)

I've stained it a dark walnut and ordered these pulls.
Hopefully they will come soon and I can show you the after in a couple days!

The pulls are currently on CLEARANCE at House of Antique Hardware so if your in the market, head on over there and get you some!!!  They are regular $7.39 on sale for $4.43.

Couch Slippin'

I've been wanting to break up with the red couch in our family room for a looooooong time now.
I liked to refer to him as "The Napkin."  He's narsty!  Embarrassing, really.
Years of baby puke, food spills and Lord knows what else.

Here's the best before picture I could find.
I tried NOT to document it's existence so this is the best "before" you're gonna get!
My son could not even bear to show his face...its that bad people.

I knew I wanted to get a slipcover made and I DESPERATELY wanted to give the whole prison reupholstery a try, but it really was going to be a big pain in my rear.  For smaller projects I think its perfect, however, this couch is in our main living area and having it "incarcerated" for a few weeks/months really wasn't going to work well for us.

So I called my two favorite fabric stores in town (UFab and Williams and Sherrill)
and they both recommended Bob McRae to make the slipcover.

He was THE nicest guy!!!
He came to the house and cut the fabric here then took it to his shop and whipped this up!

It seriously looks like a completely different couch.  The two pillows closest to the middle are off Etsy and the chevron are from Marshalls.  I would HIGHLY recommend Bob if you have a couch that is in good shape just funktified by your children or husband.  I love that we didn't have to deal with getting rid of a couch to make room for a new one.

I may be kicking myself for getting white but my hope is that when
the rug rats get it dirty
I can throw it in the wash with some bleach and it will
                                                               come out good as new.

I wish I could say it was thrifty but upholstery jobs never are (unless your having thieves and mass murderers doing it!).  It was $450 for the labor + cost of fabric.  In the end, I think it was cheaper than getting a new one and since I'm a bit of a hoarder I like knowing that it's still the first couch my husband and I owned after we got married and the couch where my babies lay sleeping on us in their first months of life.
(sorry for the sappy memories, my first baby is going to Kindergarten tomorrow, I'm slightly emotional!)

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend!

Class Finds

I stopped by Class and Trash this morning to drop off a view things and wanted to share some other finds while I was perusing downstairs.

VISIT MY SPONSORS!!!

First up...who doesn't love a cubby shelf?  If you don't, then we can't be friends anymore, sorry.

For a playroom or boys room I think this color works but...I'm not hot on the color for an adult space...nothing a little paint couldn't fix.

Class and Trash $68

The Class version is more of a floor piece then a wall mount (although I'm sure that would be possible with the right supports) but I envision something along these lines.  Putting cute labels on each space.  Filling it with a collected look.

Pottery Barn

Next up was this great drawer thingy.

Class and Trash $20

Its on wheels and I immediately thought low coffee table but then...under bed storage!!!
And for a much better price than this one!

$129-$239

Or how about for the kids toys and books!  Perfection!

Last up...

Class and Trash $18

I think some paint or maybe some Citristrip
(which I just used and loved for my card catalog (still in process) redo)
and dark stain would turn it from drab to fab.

Maybe in an entry hall like this....

Or how about this gorgeous redo from My Old Country House featured on Remodeloholic.

Hope everyone has a fabulous Labor Day Weekend!

Craigslist Finds

Hello!  Hello!  It's your long lost blog buddy!

The Summer is winding down and I'm trying to soak up the last of my days with these cuties
before my baby goes to Kindergarten!!!
Which, by the way, I think I am in total denial about!

Photo: Thank you guys for all the birthday lovin! Spending the day with these cuties! Can't beat it (that is until one of them melts down then I could think of a few things I'd rather be doing ;)

I did drag them around this morning to grab two craigslist finds.  Do you think it's child endangerment bringing your kids with you to potential craiglist crazies?  I felt very responsible asking the "crazies" to bring the things outside, left the kids in the car (windows down) with my cell and told my oldest to call Daddy if I don't come back!!!

You think I'm kidding!

Anyway, I picked up these chairs which are hideous as is
but think could be really cute with a spray job and fabric switch-a-roo.

Also got these bamboo framed prints.  I'm thinking maybe glamorous chalkboards.

Hope everyone has a great day!
xoxo!

Two Tone Mama

If you have been reading the blog for a while, you know my mom is one crafty lady.
Well she struck again and I am super jealous of her latest project.

Growing up we used to visit my mom's parents and loved "working" in the basement with all my grandfather's  tools.  I have fond memories of making all sorts of  crap treasures.  And I'm sure most of our creations quickly made their way to the trash (even my hoarder of a mother wouldn't save this stuff!)  But my sisters and I thought we were too cool for school.

My grandfather stored a bunch of his tools in this.
He passed away many years ago, but my mom held on to this gem, which was actually my great grandfather's and my mom thinks he made it himself.

With  some sanding, stain, paint and rub 'n buff, my mom transformed it into this!

I think it's so fabulous that it's now in my parents home.
I love that there are so many memories attached to it.
The stained drawers and white shell are...to die.
I think it's absolute perfection!

Ahhhh, SO much better!!!

So you all remember my crazy wacky pink mirror I could not stand.
Well with a quick couple more coats of paint, I can stand to look at it again and kinda like it!

Here's the Before Before....

And here's the Before but after the pinkish purple disaster...

And here's the final AFTER...

Neutral but still a little glammy with the gold hardware details.
I wanted to style it but this thing is massive and it's Sunday and I'm feeling super lazy!
So use your imagination :)

Hope you like!  And I hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

Mystery Revealed

So I'm sure you've lost sleep over my teaser from a few days ago.

Remember this...

Well here's a better look.

Your eyes do not deceive you!  It's a card cat!!!!

And if were talking about losing sleep, I certainly lost some over this little lady.

I saw it on the Class and Trash facebook page on one of their Thursday night previews and commented, texted, left messages and sent telegrams to Lisa and Ken to try to claim it.

My little helper and I camped outside the door before they opened and lucky me...
I got to take her home!

But you see, this the Britney Spears of card catalogs.  You can't tell from the picture but this little lady was nasty inside and out.

I refused to touch the card cat without gloves on as any smart, disease fearing guy would have done with Britney back in the day.

That is until Jason Trawick came along and took our little Brit Brit from this...

Britney Spears sporting a shaved head bald look

to this....

So.....
just call me Jason!

Hopefully I can pull off a similar transformation!

I've ordered hardware, sanded and restained the drawers, and am trying to figure out how to fix some water damage and mold issues on the shell of the catalog.

Stay tuned!
