Etching Cream! and I think I might be grounded!?

Have you all heard of etching cream?  Well if you love monogrammed stuff, this is going to be your new best friend!  This is what the bottle looks like and you can get it at any craft store.

I get mine at Michael's and use a 40% off coupon.

Here are some images I found on Pottery Barn's website...very pretty right!  Well the etching cream will give you the same look as the monogrammed items below...but at a fraction of the cost!  And you can find most of these glass items at your local Goodwill, thrift, or even Michael's & Hobby Lobby (use your 40% off coupons!)

I use stickers as a stencil.  You need something sticky to keep the etching cream from running under the stencil.  Ooooo, how cute would it be to monogram the glass in the frame from my lamp base turned table.  I might have to do that!!!

Anyway!  I was going to give you a step by step photo tutorial next but my blogger account just told me I was in trouble and out of space for pictures...Booooo!  I'm pretty sure they just put me in time-out!

So this will be a bit of a teaser and I will be back with the tutorial just as soon as Google grants me my picture privileges back!  It said possibly 24 hours.  But for now I will be pouting in my room ;)

Hey!  While you wait why don't you enter in my first ever giveaway from Tula Designs!!!

Pedestal Table Options

Thank you all for your very sweet words on yesterdays post!  Made my day quite exciting receiving all your comments!

Here's a picture for those who have no idea what I'm talking about!

My $5.50 side table made from a lamp base and frame!

And here's an Anthropologie version!

They want $298 for that...what are they smoking over there!?!?

I thought I would expand a little on the table top since I found a few other options I think would look super cute!
I love the idea of a mirrored table top like this one from West Elm.

West Elm $249

But I'm not loving the price tag!  So here are some options you could put on your  lamp base.  A little pricier than the Goodwill frame but not too bad!

Hobby Lobby
Could easily spray paint a new color.

Target
Love the lines on this one!  Reminds me of a smaller version of the one in John and Sherry at

Target
This came in a couple different colors too!
And I don't think it's a coincidence that Target's wine selection is the reflection in the background!
If that's not a sign, I don't know what is!

Target
Not a mirror but cute tray! Another with different color and pattern options!

Hobby Lobby
Use a 40% off coupon here!

If you decide to give this project a whirl I would LOVE to see your after pics!!!
The possibilities are endless with this one!

Oh! And please don't forget to enter in my first ever giveaway

Lamp Base Turned Pedestal Table!

A reader named Kris recently sent me a Better Homes and Garden link showing a table made out of a candlestick and frame.  I loved it and thought I could change a few things up and make my own version...
 so here it is!

I started with your standard brass lamp base that you can find at any Goodwill store and an old frame.  Both happened to have the "color of the week" price tag so they were 50% off their already ridiculously low prices.

After a little primer, spray paint my lamp base and frame were looking like this...

My color choice!

I removed the cord and harp from the lamp and placed an old ceiling fan canopy on the lamp pole so I had something to attach the frame to...I didn't take a picture (oops!) but mine looked something like the bronze one in this pic:

**** I'm going to try and re-create another table lamp soon and give better pics as the whole "ceiling fan canopy" seems to be confusing people!  Hope to find some time to do this soon!  Sorry I don't have better pics!

then placed a washer on top of that and then finally tightened the nut back in place to keep the lamp secure.

I used a serious amount of gorilla glue to attach the back of the frame to the canopy and...

Here's the finished product!!!

It's not the sturdiest table I've ever met and
I certainly wouldn't let my 2 year old sit on it but I think it's pretty darn cute!
Total Cost for this side table project:
Lamp $2.50
Frame $3.00
Fabric:  Had from previous project
Paint: Had from previous project

Total:  $5.50!!!

And look what I just found at Anthropologie!  A very similar one with a very steep price tag!  Looks a lot like mine, don't you think!!!  It even has fabric on the tabletop!

Brady Bunch Cheese Tray- Redone!

Mrs. Brady called and she wants her cheese tray back!

Picked this tray up at Goodwill on the serious cheap (can't remember the exact price...less than $5)

I cut some fabric I got at Hobby Lobby to fit the size of the lovely wheat plate thingy.  Then I used modge podge to adhere it to the tin plate.

I spray painted the wood with a laquer spray paint so it will have a good amount of protection.

And Tada!

I picked up a pillar candle holder from World Market for $1.20 to protect the fabric when cutting the cheese (pardon the expression...there was no getting around it!).

Whatcha think?  You like?  Super easy!  And the fabric goes with the tray that is in my etsy shop!

Help! Which one do you like?

Yesterday I made it my mission to find some affordable options for the back of my china cabinet.  To my surprise I found some (and without even leaving my house)!  So now I have to choose, which I am really not very good at!  I thought I would get your opinions.  There are two that I am liking best, but I won't say which ones.  Want to see what you think!  I've numbered them to make it a little easier.

I'm sticking with my initial thought of pink (it is the Patone color of the year after all so why not go for it!)

1.
(this is wrapping paper and the most expensive option)

2.
(fabric)
3.
(fabric)

4.
(fabric)

5.
(this is wrapping paper that comes in small sheets, not sure if it would work or not)

Something to keep in mind....I'm playing off the color pink from this Annechovie print that is in my dining room already.

Leave a comment and let me know which number you like best!
