Home run at the auction!!!

I really wish I could say that I hit a home run at the auction but the stars aligned for someone else and I'm so jealous thrilled for her!!!  Remember my friend "Diane" (remember she was so embarrassed about her before she wanted an alias!) who gave her dining room a fabulous makeover with a ton hard work and a lot black paint?!?!  Here's a reminder:

Well she emailed me saying she was going to an auction up in Connecticut where she lives and they had TWO card catalogs on the docket.  I was so excited for her and sure that they would be going for hundreds and hundreds of dollars.  Well apparently they haven't gotten the memo in CT that card catalogs are
like the 8th wonder of the world these days!  She got this beauty for $140!!!!!

I can't wait to see what she does with it!  It's so pretty she wouldn't even have to paint it if she didn't want to.  Such a score!!!  So happy for you "Diane!"

And the lesson of the day would be...
go to more auctions!!!

Pretty in Pink!

I have been seriously lazy in the painting furniture department lately.  I think the holidays have slowed me down.  My untouched craigslist coffee table is giving me dirty looks in the garage because I have been completely ignoring it!

So, I had to steal my mom's latest transformation she did for my sweet niece Kate.  My sister has been looking for a dresser for her nursery for a while.  We were all on high alert for one and my mom happened to score this one from Goodwill for an insane $35.  And lucky for my sister offered to paint it for her (not surprising...remember she basically redid every piece of furniture in my other sisters apartment for her, she is a glutton for punishment!).

Here's the before:

Goodwill $35!!!

Step 1: Prime

 Step 2: Pink it up!

Final Product
(and per usual...slight blurry!  Will try to get clearer ones posted later but my sister has 3 kids six and under and I wasn't about to ask her for more pics after she just got back from a trip to CA last night!!)

Such a great statement piece in the room.  Any little girls dream.  And even though Kate is only 8 months old, I know she must adore it!  How could you not!

Wingback Inspiration and more!

I wanted to share a chair with you that I just put in my Class and Trash space for sale.  Its a white wingback that could use a little love.

Class and Trash: $50

Have you all seen the painted fabric chairs floating around the blogosphere?  One of my favorite bloggers, Rashon Carraway (aka Mr. Goodwill Hunting), recently transformed a wingback he found out thrifting from this....

To THIS!!!!!

...by painting the fabric!!!  Follow his tutorial here to get the same look!

And here are a few more lovelies that Class and Trash is practically giving away!  Even though I'm a vendor there I still don't know their secret to such crazy affordable prices!

Class and Trash: $98

Doesnt it remind you of this one that Kate from Centsational Girl transformed.

Craigslist Coffee Table

Hey everyone!  I wanted to share my latest thrifty find with you and also get some advice!  I found this very cool coffee table on craigslist last week and totally fell in love with its unique look.  Love the base and the hardware and drawers.

So of course I want to paint it and give it a freshened up look.  My question is...the base is made of wood, I believe, and the paint is chipping quite a bit.  Has anyone ever used paint stripper to take off paint on something like this before?  I'm thinking it would look much better if I could get it all off and start fresh instead of trying to sand the chipped parts.  I've never done anything like that so any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Bamboo Dresser Reveal!

So I never really got to the bottom of the photo problem.  I'm still not in love with how these pictures came out but I'm tired of trying for perfect!  I'm thinking it might have something to do with the gloss finish and reflections and shadows making it look blurry and BLAH-ZAY!  But......

Remember my before (the one on the right):

Love of Jesus Thrift: $55

And here is the after photo I wish was a little crisper!!

Pardon the un-staged dresser top!  Just threw my jewelry mess holder and some books up there!  Not sure what I'm going to put there yet!  And the cable box...UGH!  Not cute...but keepin' it real people!

I used this spray paint that I got from Home Depot:
Rust-Oleum 248631 12 oz Stops Rust Protectie Enamel Spray Paint, Night Tide Gloss (6 Pack)
Color: Night Tide

I LOVE this spray paint!  The finish looks very professional.  I've  never used this version of Rustoleum.  Usually get their 2X cover which I also love but this one is glorious!!!  Goes on easily and leaves a lovely finish.  And I take zero credit for this find.  Remember I copycatted Kates gorgeous nightstand over at Centsational Girl.  She gives an amazing tutorial over there so check it out!

I am THE WORST at spray painting table tops though so I had the guys at Home Depot color match the spray paint so I could roll the sides and the top of the dresser and spray the drawers and dresser "shell."  I am happy with the match.  It's not the exact finish but its close enough and I avoided that weird spray paint look you get on large surfaces.

I also used this for the handles:

In the color: Gold Leaf
Purchased at Michaels

And of course I primed with my fav Zinsser OIL BASED primer (both spray and roll to keep things movin!)
Our TV hangs above the dresser, which I'm not a huge fan of.  I'm hoping to do something like this to make it blend in a little more!

Mrs. Limestone gives a fabulous tutorial on her blog!

That's all for now!  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Technical Difficulities

I'm dying to share my dresser makeover with  you all but am having major technical difficulties.  I can't get a good picture to save my life!!!  I even fiddled on http://www.picnik.com/ for a while today...45 minutes of my life I'll never get back  Could have been catching up on what Kim and Kourtney are up to in New York in that time!!!!

I don't know if its the cloudy day we had today or the ridiculously bright lights in the hideous ceiling fan we have.  Anyway, this is the best I could get so that's all for now.  I will try to get a decent one tomorrow.  If you saw the rest that I took today, you would swear my 2 year old was manning the camera.  Pitiful!

Sponsor Shout Out- Scentsy

A little behind on my usual Friday Sponsor Shout Out with the holiday craziness and all.  I just ordered a couple plug in warmers for teacher gifts from Whitney at Scentsy.  I got these adorable zebra ones

$20.00

and the one I have called Wonky.

$20.00

They make so much more than these plug in's though...love these warmers too

$25.00

$30.00

And this is a picture of how the fragrance comes.  They come in a brick or bar that you break off and place in/on your warmer.

Such fun!  Hope you think about these when giving gifts this year!  It really is that perfect go to $20ish dollar gift.  Or grab one for yourself and fill your house with the scents of the season!!!

Contact Whitney here with any questions.  Shop her Scentsy site right here!

Oh!  And Happy Cyber Monday!  I've been online bargain shopping all day!  How about you all?!?!
