Trying to Get Fancy...and FAILING!

Keeping it real people.  Most of my projects aren't without a major flub up.  This one is no different.  Except I don't know how to fix this one and I'm so over this project.  I'm about to leave it at the end of my driveway with a "free" sign next to it!!!

So I'm happy with how the bar looks from the front.  I painted it a lovely peacock blue and shined up the hardware with some rub 'n buff in gold leaf...

Enter the problem.  I thought it would be cute to fancy up the flip out top for a little hidden pizazz you only see when you're partying.  Well...it looks awful!!!  I modge podged this World Market wrapping paper (which Ive used in the past to line my map drawers with) on to the bar.

You can't really tell but it is super bubbly.  It didn't dry flat.  I probably should have used fabric instead.  It would have dried much better but I really loved this paper.

So what do you all think I should do?  Rip it off (and spend hours and hours sanding and scraping and bits that I know will remain) and paint it the peacock blue?  Any other creative ideas?  I'm so over this so I don't want to spend too much time but I'm planning on selling it so I don't want it to be a piece 'O crap!  HELP!!!

Antler Dyslexia

You guys, this is how moronic I am...I thought those two holes on the skull thingy were eye sockets...so I just hung them up so the eyes were in the right spot!!!  Maybe I should take a class in taxidermy!  Can you imagine how small the eyes would have to be to fit in those sockets!!!  No wonder he was hunted down...can't see shi*...pardon my language!

BEFORE:

AFTER!

I am not playing with a full deck ladies and gentleman.  Oh, and a side note.  I also could not find my car in the grocery store parking lot yesterday.  Our grocery store brings your bags out for you making matters so much worse.  I laughingly told the guy I couldn't remember where I parked, proceeded to sound my car alarm for clue #1.  Found the car (forgot I parked in an area I usually don't park) and apologized to the young chap bringing my groceries out.  He made me feel much better by telling me that "people get lost trying to find their cars but this is really bad!"  I'm 31 years old going on 90!  So clearly yesterday was not my brightest hour.

Thanks to my loyal readers I've reversed the antlers and they are looking fabulous.  I think I'll keep 'em this way!  And every time I look at them I will  be reminded of what a looney tune I am!

Rudolph's Pissed

Animal lovers...hide your eyes.  I've wanted to embrace the antler craze for a while now but was not willing to fork over the big bucks for the Ballard Design version here...

Suzanne Kasler Atelier Antler

Soooo, when I spotted some while out on a thrifting excursion I had to snatch them up....as nasty and grossed out as I was.  They were filthy and I'm pretty sure a family of something gross once lived in the poor thing.  I made my husband remove something furry, that he called "dust" but I think was something far grosser.  It makes me cringe just imagining what it may have been!

I don't have a before picture but here is the after.  All cleaned up and hanging in our master.  I was considering hanging them downstairs but thought I might frighten visitors so I opted for a room less traveled by friends and family.

I spray painted them glossy white and taped off the ends.  I used my favorite rub 'n buff to give it some girly flare.

I am not a hunter and think its rather disgusting and sad and I certainly am not encouraging you to go hunt down your own set (a disclaimer in case the gaming authority is reading)...but aren't they kind of cute?!

So what do you all think?  Are you horrified and disgusted, never to return to the blog again or can you forgive me and embrace my antler loving ways?!?

*****
Okay.....so.... a view readers have mentioned that I may have hung them upside down...to which I felt like a complete idiot and looked at my husband and was like...are they upside down!?!?!  And he replied, yeah, I think so.  To which I said, well why didn't you say anything when I hung them up that way!!!!!  Would have been nice to know before I posted it for the world to see!!!!  Anyway, so I tried flipping them around and it looks a little weird that way too.  I think they would look right if I had the skull part horizontal (if that makes sense), but I cant hang them on a wall like that so either way they are going to look funny.  I'll take pics the other way tomorrow and we can take a vote what looks better.  Click HERE to see those!

Linking up with these lovely ladies!

Oh M Geeeeee!

What an exciting day we've had here at casa Richmond Thrifter!!!  The blog was featured in the R Home magazine section of the Richmond Magazine's March/April issue as a website to check out!  I'm totally shocked and feeling very grateful for whoever at the magazine was crazy enough to throw my name out there!

This is the cover...

The shout out is on the last page of the mag at the bottom...

Eeeeek!  There it is!  Such fun!
Never thought when I started this little thing anyone would ever read it so this is such a thrill!

Thanks to you all for reading and coming back even though I'm a little scattered about when I post, probably make massive amounts of grammatical and spelling errors, and have very amateur photography skills!!!

And thanks Richmond Magazine for the shout out!!

XOXOXOXO

Weekend fun and thrifty finds!

I'm back from a little blog hiatus!  We had my sister and her 3 kids visiting the end of last week and were busy playing with them, then my son got strep throat, and last but certainly not least my most amazing husband whisked me off to the Greenbrier Hotel (right over the Virginia/West Virginia border) for a surprise night away Saturday.   He earned himself some major brownie points in the husband department.  If you all have never been or haven't been recently its such a great place!  Not the thriftiest but it's nice to splurge every once in a while!

The decor is really funky, bright colors, gold (LOVE!).  They recently renovated it and added a casino which was so fun to hit up after a nice dinner.  Luckily we won a little at the blackjack table which took the sting out of the bill when we checked out.  My sister (with all the amazing thrift finds...barrister, card catalog, campaign etc.) watched my kids.  I think she is scarred for life and may never have children!  If you don't have kids then having to watch two youngsters for a weekend tends to be a shock to the system.!!!  She did a great job, though, they had a blast and were spoiled rotten!  So anyway, we've been a little busy!  But I was out this morning at Class and Trash dropping some things off and wanted to share some finds with you.

The first one is in my booth.  Love this mirror and battled my inner demons to give it up and put it in my booth.

Hello beautiful barrister bookcase!  Where have you been all my life!  It's particle board so not anywhere near as pricey as solid wood but looks just as nice.  Kenny said the bottom two drawers to slide on.

Found one on pinterest being used for shoe storage.  Love that idea!  Lord knows we all need more!

Fun Finds

I visited a new thrifty store the other weekend and wanted to share some cool finds.  My first stop was A new store called Thrill of the Hunt in Ashland, VA.  Kind of a mix of painted furniture and vintage finds.

I'm madly in love with this old antique grain/seed bin.  I can totally see it cleaned up in a dining room as a buffet.  The price seems hefty but the owner of the store said they saw a similar one online for $9,000.  I bet they negotiate price there too...not sure but seems like that type of place.

Thrill of the Hunt $1,595

Love this letter N...wish I had a significant N in my life but my last name is a W, kids are E and C...couldn't justify buying it!  And totally forgot to ask the price.

Love this elephant garden stool.

Thrill of the Hunt $65

I hoped over to Habitat ReStore on Mechanicsville Turnpike too and they had a BUNCH of these carpet squares I've seen them use on HGTV room makeover shows a bunch.  Great for swapping out if you have kids who like to use your carpet as a napkin like mine do!

Hope everyone is having a great day.  I for one need a drink.  Day 1 of potty training my 2 year old was a MAJOR FAIL.  Girls got some serious willpower.

I'm feeling a little bit like this right about now!
