Craigslist Coffee Table

Hey everyone!  I wanted to share my latest thrifty find with you and also get some advice!  I found this very cool coffee table on craigslist last week and totally fell in love with its unique look.  Love the base and the hardware and drawers.

So of course I want to paint it and give it a freshened up look.  My question is...the base is made of wood, I believe, and the paint is chipping quite a bit.  Has anyone ever used paint stripper to take off paint on something like this before?  I'm thinking it would look much better if I could get it all off and start fresh instead of trying to sand the chipped parts.  I've never done anything like that so any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

  1. I use Citristrip all the time, you can only get it at Home Depot, it will take a lot of things off various different surfaces....BTW, that is a very "cool" table, I am loving the campaign style and those drawer pulls rock!

  2. That is awesome. I think I used Citristrip before too - the product the previous poster mentioned. It took layers of paint off of an old dresser that I was refinishing (this was long before my blogging days). Try it!

  3. Try Zinsser paint stripper by Rustoleum. It's a messy job but with all the detail on those legs, I think it may be your best bet.

  4. I've used Citristrip as well along with some other not so pleasant strippers. If I had to pick a brand based on my personal experience, Citristrip hands down. Other strippers are very strong and you'll need to be outside with a mask and Nitrile gloves too!

That being said, stripping wood is not a fun task. I would recommend hand sanding the table in the areas that are chipping and harder to reach areas. Good luck with whichever route you choose!

  5. I have this same table. Got it today at Savers. What did you end up doing with it?
