Glass Etching (last one, I promise) AND the giveaway winner!

First I want to thank everyone who entered my first ever giveaway!  I'm excited to announce that  Jacqueline is the winner of an adorable new pair of monogrammed bloomers!  Congrats Jacqueline!!

Don't forget that Kelly is offering a 20% off discount (coupon code: RICTHRIFT) from her shop Tula Designs.  Thanks Kelly!  If anyone else is interested in hosting a giveaway please shoot me an email!  I would love to hear from you!

Now onto your regularly scheduled program...

To say I have a slight obsession with this etching cream would be an understatement.  My husband is pretty much convinced every piece of glass in our house will eventually be monogrammed!  Here are a few more examples of what you can do with this stuff!

I found these adorable little salt and pepper shakers for $1 at Michaels.  I etched an "s" and a "p" to give them a little more personality!

Here is my Pottery Barn knock off.  The Apothecary jar was purchased at Michaels with a 40% off coupon.  I etched a "W" on for our last name, White.

Michaels- $12

Sorry, hard to see on camera!

Here's the Pottery Barn version

Pottery Barn- $49

Here's another fun way to add some personality to your stemless wine glasses.

Dollar General- Set of 6- $6
I made these for my parents since its quite a wine-fest when all the siblings and their significant others get together at their house.  This way you don't have to bother with wine charms.  You just have to remember which number you have...which tends to be a problem towards the end of the night after several refills!

Look similar to these, don't they!

Pottery Barn set of 6 - $72

Don't tell my parents but I got theirs at Dollar General for $1 each!  That's quite a savings over the PB glasses!

Kristen from http://updownleftrightbastart.blogspot.com/ had mentioned that she uses this stuff!  It gives the look of etched glass but in a spray can.  It's much easier to use then the etching cream.  I would recommend it for things that you will not be running through the dishwashers since its not permanent.

And how great is this idea from Meri at http://twofive365.blogspot.com/.  She monogrammed a glass pie plate so that when she brings pies over to a party the hostess won't "forget" to return it because her name is right there on the bottom!  Love that idea!

If you need a tutorial on how to use the etching cream...here is my post on that!

  1. Thanks for the shout-out! I love the numbered wine glasses - we always have random glasses sitting around the house when the in-laws are over and we never know which glass belongs to which wine-drinker! This is a great idea :)

  2. I tried my hand at etching over Christmas making VT Wine Glasses. I had a hard time getting an even etch as some parts of the etching creme would apply a little heavier than others. It was a good first try & I look forward to doing more projects. Love all the ones you have done!

  4. How do you think contact paper would work if I wanted to cut my own design out with an exacto knife on a piece of glass for a frame? Also, do you think it would be better to do it on the piece of glass that lays against the pictures or facing out? My apprehension about it facing out is that over time, any dust that accumulates on it could make it appear fuzzy? Thanks! Love all of your ideas :)

  5. Susan, I definitely think contact paper would work, im just not that handy with an exacto so Ive never tried it. Using a plastic stencil and spraying a little spray adehisive would probably work on a flat surface too but not so much on a rounded surface like a wine glass.

I would do it on the glass that is facing out but I can't see why the other way wouldnt work too! Hope this helps and makes some sense! Would love to see what you do with it!

  6. Awesome! Thanks! The spray adhesive/stencil is a great idea for flat surfaces!

I am making a large frame for my girlfriend who is graduating in May from ODU and I want to use one of their logos and a few other added lines, hence the contact paper/exacto knife on flat glass in a frame. I will definitely send you a picture (crosses fingers and toes that it works) when I am finished!
