Dining Room Doll Up

My very sweet sorority sister from college, who we will call "Diane," emailed me to get some ideas on her dining room.  She is embarrassed about her before pictures (which I don't think are that bad!) and wants to use an alias, which I thought was so funny!  So, anyway, "Diane" has two little ones, works a full time job, and was still eager to take on the challenge.  Some would call her crazy, I call her dedicated!  Here is her before:

I gave her lots of ideas, but the biggest one was to paint, paint, paint that furniture!!!  It is such a cost effective way to make a major change in a room.  She worked her fanny off and is almost done!  I can't wait to see the after pics!  I will share them just as soon as I get them.  So...any other quick updates you like to do to give a room a new life?  Share with the group ;)

  1. Adding art and personal mementos always make a space more like home. Depending on the layout of the rest of the room adding some round elements could help it look less like a showroom floor, unless the clean line, simple look is the look she is going for.

  2. In that room, I would put in a new light fixture. There are reasonably priced ones to be found and they are super easy to change yourself. Reupholstering the chairs is a quick easy fix too.
In my own house, I need to paint my fireplace mantle :/ But it is a big job and I am a big chicken. lol

  4. It's beautiful furniture, but that finish is what's dating the room. I'm interested to see how it turns out!

  5. Can't wait to see the end result! Painting works wonders! Maybe she can recover the chairs and add a fun patterned set of lampshades to her chandy! Painting that would be great too - and you've done that before! I bet Diane ;) is working hard!!! It'll be worth it!!!
