Chalkboard Globe

I wanted to share a little project I finished last night.  I take ZERO credit for this crafty idea because I definitely did not come up with it myself!  Stephanie at Under the Table and Dreaming gave me the great inspiration!
I found this globe at Goodwill a few weeks ago.

First I wrapped the metal part (Is there a technical term for that part?  I'm sure there is but I'm typing this during naptime and lets be honest, time is precious so I'm not looking it up!)

Doesn't the globe look like he has a little mohawk!  Cute!

Wrap the base in a plastic bag and tape to secure...

then SPRAY the heck out of the globe with chalkboard spray paint and let dry.  I have to admit the teacher in me cringed when I started spraying the globe.  Something about it felt very wrong.  Like I was graffiti painting our planet or something.  But I fought through it and love how it turned out!

I wrote on there "Oh the places we will see (I hope) and listed some places I want to visit (hint, hint, honey).  Then after you visit you can cross them off.  I've seen other people use these as message boards too.  Have you guys seen this project out in the blogosphere?  Has anyone tried it out?
