Glass Etching- Take 2

I behaved myself and my picture privileges have been returned!  So back to the etching cream!  Here is a tutorial on how to use this stuff.  Please be warned, Amour Etch smells like someones underarm!  Actually more like a rotten egg.  It causes some chemical reaction with the glass and leaves a permanent "etch" wherever you put it.  Here's what I did with it!

These ugly cookie jar things are all over the Goodwill stores.  Seen better days but have great potential!

A close up of the attractive lid!

Remove nasty circle thingy

Modge Podge your favorite fabric or paper on there and make it pretty!

Spray paint the jar lid in a coordinating color.

These are the stickers I used for this project...from Michaels.

Cut the letters you need and position the stickers with the outer part of the sticker still attached onto your glass.  It's easier to put the sticker on if its one piece.  My letters look a little funky when I don't do this!

Once they are on remove the inside part of the sticker.

Tape it up to avoid accidental drips.  This is the most time consuming part.

Glob the stuff on!  It says wait 5 min. before taking off but I always wait about 15 min to get a good dark etch.

Rinse off the etching cream...not sure if doing it in the sink is recommended... but I risked it!  Call me crazy!

Tada!  Etched Glass!
It's kind of hard to see in a photo.

And a pretty lid!

I'm not sure why I put this for sale in my etsy shop since I just showed you how to make your own...I think the ArmourEtch cream smell has gone to my head!  I just can't keep every crafty thing I make or I will be the next headcase on the show "Hoarders."

I have lots more etched glass stuff to show you but this post was long enough!  I'll be back with some etched Pottery Barn knock offs next time!  Happy Friday!

Oh!  Don't forget to enter my giveaway from Tula Designs!  It ends Monday night!

  5. Glad you guys are going to give it a try! Lauren, there is also a spray paint for getting this look. Think its called Frosted...I was going to blog about that on the next post. Its much less time consuming and messy then the etching cream. I usually only use the cream if it is something that is going to be washed since the spray paint will wash off. It doesnt sound like you will be washing your mason jars though so it would probably work! I'll attach a picture of the spray paint bottle in the next post!

  7. I think I'm going to give this a try, too. I like the idea of personalized gifts! And I think you should TOTALLY do a MNO tutorial. In fact, if you ever want to set up additional business that's a great idea - host in-home DIY parties!
