Go ahead, put your feet up!

I finally have a redo project to show you, although my crafty mom deserves all the props (hence the reason she gets the bamboo Chippendale chair from the last post!).  Remember my galvanized tub from a WHILE back.  I wanted to add a tufted top and turn it into an ottoman.

Well here is a reminder:

And after my mom did a little of this and a little of that....

We have this!

I wanted the top to come off for storage inside because who doesn't need extra storage!?!

I put about 5 screws (leave the screw sticking way up) around the inside to keep it from sliding off if someone puts their feet on it.  I'm not explaining that very well but hopefully you get the gist.

I'm really happy with how it turned out but have no where to put it so... I will be putting it for sale in one of my booths whenever I can shake my kids and get over there alone.

Hope you like and I hope everyone has a wonderful start to the New Year!!!

Getting my fix!

So it's been a few days since I was out goodwill hunting with the holidays and all and I was starting to get the shakes.  I had to run out and finish some last minute gift getting for someone on my list and just so happened to be passing by a Goodwill.  I'd left my husband with the kids for what he thought was a quick shopping trip so I had to make it snappy!

I wasn't even going to go in but I'm sooooooo glad I did!  Look what I found!!!!

Can I get a Hells Yeah!!!
This Chippendale arm chair was $15.  I was so excited normally I just rip the tag off (to claim it as mine) and continue shopping but it was too risky!  I carried that thing around as I continued shopping just to make sure no one could gank it from me!!!

I'm giving this to my mom for Christmas to maybe go with her campaign desk she redid a while back... because who doesn't want a $15 used chair from a possibly germ and bug invested house under their Christmas tree!?!?!  I kid, I think she's going to pass out when she sees it and since she loves a good deal just as much as the rest of us it will make the gift even sweeter!

And because you may not believe this insane price I included a pic of the tag because if I didn't see it with my own eyes I wouldn't believe me either!!!

And head over to my facebook page if you are bored.  I just added a little class to my Class and Trash inventory with some Lilly Pulitzer items.  Oh and feel free to "like" the page...I'll consider it a belated Christmas gift from you ;)

I just dropped off a few things at Class and Trash I wanted to share with you guys.

I'm loving the whole orange and navy color combo these days so when I saw this chair I knew someone could turn it from Granny to Glamour!

Would be such a great sunburst-ish mirror on the cheap!

Storage Wars

Do you all watch the show Storage Wars?  My husband has my kids at the gym and instead of doing something productive I am being super lazy and sitting on the couch with a glass of wine.  Since I'm all caught up on my dvr'd shows I'm flipping through the channels.  I land on Storage Wars which seems like my cup of tea.  People who bid on abandoned storage units without really knowing whats inside.

Although its a pretty entertaining show, for some reason I feel like I'm being dupped.  I get the feeling the producers or whoever is in charge of the wow factor are conveniently placing cool items worth hundreds of dollars in the units.  Does anyone else watch?  Maybe I'm just a cynic but I don't buy it!  BUT...a show I will recommend is HOMELAND!!!

Anyone watch that?  We are almost through the first season and slightly depressed it's about to come to an end (for the time being at least!)

PS can you tell I am still in my super lazy, non-redoing, holidays are kicking my butt, wish my kids were back in preschool phase!?!  Hope I snap out of it soon!

Card Catalog Wanna Be

I picked up this metal military file this weekend to try to fill the void I feel from not owning an authentic wooden card catalog.  I do love it, but I still feel that empty feeling only a real life library card catalog can fill ;)

This guy is pretty dinged up but, considering its been through a war or two, its kind of rustically chic.  In the right space I think it would be so cool.  I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep it or sell it.  I think it would look so fabulous with some tall hair pin legs added and maybe used as a console table of sorts.  Here are some inspirational photos for your viewing pleasure!

Or maybe some wheels???

So what do you all think?  Would you ever put such a rust bucket in your home?  Think its needs a coat of paint?  Can you even paint over rust?  I'm kind of at a loss here, I just know I love it and that's where it stands...and my hopes and dreams of parking in the garage dwindle with every shopping excursion!

Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

Home run at the auction!!!

I really wish I could say that I hit a home run at the auction but the stars aligned for someone else and I'm so jealous thrilled for her!!!  Remember my friend "Diane" (remember she was so embarrassed about her before she wanted an alias!) who gave her dining room a fabulous makeover with a ton hard work and a lot black paint?!?!  Here's a reminder:

Well she emailed me saying she was going to an auction up in Connecticut where she lives and they had TWO card catalogs on the docket.  I was so excited for her and sure that they would be going for hundreds and hundreds of dollars.  Well apparently they haven't gotten the memo in CT that card catalogs are
like the 8th wonder of the world these days!  She got this beauty for $140!!!!!

I can't wait to see what she does with it!  It's so pretty she wouldn't even have to paint it if she didn't want to.  Such a score!!!  So happy for you "Diane!"

And the lesson of the day would be...
go to more auctions!!!

Pretty in Pink!

I have been seriously lazy in the painting furniture department lately.  I think the holidays have slowed me down.  My untouched craigslist coffee table is giving me dirty looks in the garage because I have been completely ignoring it!

So, I had to steal my mom's latest transformation she did for my sweet niece Kate.  My sister has been looking for a dresser for her nursery for a while.  We were all on high alert for one and my mom happened to score this one from Goodwill for an insane $35.  And lucky for my sister offered to paint it for her (not surprising...remember she basically redid every piece of furniture in my other sisters apartment for her, she is a glutton for punishment!).

Here's the before:

Goodwill $35!!!

Step 1: Prime

 Step 2: Pink it up!

Final Product
(and per usual...slight blurry!  Will try to get clearer ones posted later but my sister has 3 kids six and under and I wasn't about to ask her for more pics after she just got back from a trip to CA last night!!)

Such a great statement piece in the room.  Any little girls dream.  And even though Kate is only 8 months old, I know she must adore it!  How could you not!

Wingback Inspiration and more!

I wanted to share a chair with you that I just put in my Class and Trash space for sale.  Its a white wingback that could use a little love.

Class and Trash: $50

Have you all seen the painted fabric chairs floating around the blogosphere?  One of my favorite bloggers, Rashon Carraway (aka Mr. Goodwill Hunting), recently transformed a wingback he found out thrifting from this....

To THIS!!!!!

...by painting the fabric!!!  Follow his tutorial here to get the same look!

And here are a few more lovelies that Class and Trash is practically giving away!  Even though I'm a vendor there I still don't know their secret to such crazy affordable prices!

Class and Trash: $98

Doesnt it remind you of this one that Kate from Centsational Girl transformed.

Craigslist Coffee Table

Hey everyone!  I wanted to share my latest thrifty find with you and also get some advice!  I found this very cool coffee table on craigslist last week and totally fell in love with its unique look.  Love the base and the hardware and drawers.

So of course I want to paint it and give it a freshened up look.  My question is...the base is made of wood, I believe, and the paint is chipping quite a bit.  Has anyone ever used paint stripper to take off paint on something like this before?  I'm thinking it would look much better if I could get it all off and start fresh instead of trying to sand the chipped parts.  I've never done anything like that so any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!
